Royal Malaysian Customs Department (RMCD) received a study visit by a delegation from the Customs Administration of Bangladesh from 17th to 18th June 2014. The delegation consisted of seven officers led by Mr. Md Masudul Kabir, Commissioner of Bangladesh Customs. The purpose of the visit was to benchmark the implementation of the AEO program by RMCD and to share experiences and challenges faced by RMCD in the implementation of the AEO program. The visit was organized and funded by the Asian Development Bank (ADB).

The visit began with a courtesy call to the Director General of RMCD, Dato’ Sri Khazali bin Hj. Ahmad. He welcomed the delegation and hoped they would share their experiences with the RMCD in connection with the implementation of the AEO program.

The discussion was chaired by Mrs. Radziah binti Abdul Razak, Senior Assistant Director of Customs, I, International Affairs Section. She thanked Bangladesh Customs for choosing Malaysia to study the implementation of AEO Program and briefly mentioned the background of AEO program in Malaysia.

During the discussion, officers from International Affairs Section presented an overview of RMCD and its role as WCO Asia/Pacific Vice-Chair, which would start in July 2014. The AEO Secretariat of RMCD presented a comprehensive presentation on Malaysia’s AEO program. A briefing on the development of Mutual Recognition Arrangement (MRA) between Malaysia and Japan Customs Administration was given by Mr. Noboru Kurita, JICA Expert. The Commissioner of Bangladesh Customs introduced the meeting with a short briefing on Bangladesh Customs role and functions.

After the discussion, the delegation departed for Johor Bahru to join the Security Audit conducted by the AEO Account Manager of RMCD Johor on Panasonic System Networks Malaysia Sdn. Bhd., located in the Senai Industrial Park. The delegation had the opportunity to learn how the security audit was conducted. Beside that the delegation was taken for a tour to various operational sections of the company and was introduced to new products manufactured by the company.
