At the request of the Embassy of Egypt, a meeting was held between Royal Malaysian Customs Department (RMCD) and the Economic and Commercial Office, Embassy of Egypt on 24 December 2013. The meeting was chaired by Assistant Director General of Customs (Enforcement), Dato’ Hj. Zainul Abidin bin Taib and the Economic and Commercial Office, Embassy of Egypt was represented by Mr. Ahmed Tarek Fawzy, Commercial First Secretary.

Recognising RMCD’s success on combating drugs trafficking, smuggling of illicit cigarettes, vehicles and other products, Mr Ahmed, on behalf of Egypt Customs Administration indicated their interest to learn from Malaysia.

Mr. Mohd Azman bin Abdullah, Senior Assistant Director of Customs II gave a presentation on RMCD’s enforcement activities, amongst others, a briefing on the modus operandi and type of goods smuggled.   There was also a brief discussion on RMCD’s Risk Assessment System, i.e. the Customs Verification Initiative (CVI) and the future uCustoms system .

Mr. Ahmed thanked the Royal Malaysian Customs for hosting the meeting and hoped that it will be the beginning of a further bilateral cooperation between Egypt Customs Administration and the Royal Malaysian Customs.
