1. Classification of goods for import and export purposes, either manufactured / produced locally is based on the Customs Duty Order 1996 effective 1^st January 1996 which in turn was based on the Harmonized Commodity Description and Coding System or in short Harmonised System (HS).

3. Advice services can be obtained from any branch of the Classification and Technical Services unit set up in every state.

4. All applications for classifications can be forwarded to any branch of the Classification and Technical Services unit set up in every state.

5. Application for classification must be made using the form in Attachment A in 2 copies. Each application must be attached with the following documents / information :

• Business Samples
• Brochures
• Catalogue
• Pictures (if it comes without a brochure or catalogue)

6. If the business item requires classification, the applicant must attach a sample in the quantity required as described in Attachment B.

7. If the applicant company or individual disagrees with the classification issued, an appeal can be made to the Royal Malaysian Customs Headquarters, Classification Branch, Tariff and Gazette. Each appeal must be enclosed with the relevant facts for consideration.
